Proceedings & Fees for New Members of Newcastle Ionians Inc.

information-1 As with all Ionian clubs, Newcastle Ionians follow the guidelines of a set of Basic Rules, with by-laws adapted by individual clubs to suit their particular needs.

The concept that makes Ionian Clubs different to other clubs is that members have come to the area, either as the result of a move from another location or they have returned to the area following a long absence.

Newcastle Ionians hold a lunch meeting on the fourth Thursday of every month (except December) from 10.45 am to approximately 2.00 pm.

A newsletter is emailed to all members prior to the lunch meeting and a paper copy is available at the lunch meeting .

It is assumed that members will attend each meeting. For catering purposes, those unable to attend MUST inform our Venue Liaison committee member by the Monday prior to the meeting, otherwise the club will have to charge for the missed meal to cover expenses.

Sickness and other unexpected events are always taken into consideration.

Meetings are informal social occasions and include reports from various activity groups followed by a guest speaker, or a trivia challenge or ‘bring and buy’ table. Guest speakers do not receive payment, but are given a small gift of appreciation and invited to stay for lunch.

Some members join the activity groups which form according to the interests in the club, such as book group, craft and patchwork, Bridge, mah-jong, walking and wine appreciation. Members take turns to host these groups at their homes, usually once a month.

Members of the club are encouraged to take a position on the committee at some time. The committee consists of president and vice president, treasurer and assistant treasurer, minute secretary, correspondence secretary, social secretary and newsletter, welfare and website officers. Committee meetings are held one week before the lunch meetings.

Fees for Newcastle Ionian Club consist of a joining fee ($20) an annual membership ($35) and an annual levy for the National Convention ($10). Christmas and birthday lunches cost slightly more.

During the year, various social events are organised, some of which include partners. Suggestions for outings, excursions and activities are welcome from all members, as are suggestions for guest speakers.
